Comments: Trying one more time to get this right. I served on Askari from 07/70 to 06/71 in the AC Generator room. I retired from the US Navy after 20 years and Askari was my first ship and I still think of her very fondly.
Comments: I was aboard for a brief or short 10 days if I remember correctly in Guam in 1971 Aug-Sep time frame. I was assigned to the engineroom to help repair a down engine before we turned this vessle over to the Indonesian Navy.

Comments: I was t.a.d. aboard from Nov. 67 to Aug 68 as a signalman. I was just reading about the tet of 68 and our opperations in the Delta during that time. I used to think that most of the experiences in VN were much like mine in the MRF. I have since found out how much more we took the fight to the enemy than many others stationed in country. I am proud to have been with the Askari during the action of those months I was aboard her.
Comments: 68-70 Robert enlisted in the US Navy on his 18th birthday in Colorado Springs Colorado, and left for San Diego for training shortly after. Viet Nam and was assigned to the USS Askari. At that time, He volunteered for the additional 6 month period and was released in early 1970 with an honorable discharge. He was eligible and received most of the medals listed in the history for his ship. After his return to Colorado he was eager to start his life and his family and married his fiancee of 18 months in August of 1970. some one had to take these pics of my dad
