Comments: In 1965 I was transfered from the USS HECTOR AR-7 To the moth ball fleet in Mare Island. In 1966 I was in officers country and heard a familiar voice. It was my old Division officer Lt. Riddle. He asked me to ship over to the Askari as we were outfitting her for duty in Viet Nam. I declined and to this day I have regretted it. Can anyone tell me the where abouts of Lt. Riddle, He was a fine commander and a great friend. I was IC/2 Perkins to him. Shps company electricians. on the USS PELIAS AS-13 i'D like to hear from anyone who remembers me

Comments: I was an aircraft mechanic in World War II and was stationed all during the war at Wharton Airbase in WhartonEngland. This town was south of Blackpool on the west coast of England.

Comments: My dad (Dix Richardson) says he served on the USS Askariin 67/68. I have the computer so I thought I would peek ata couple of websites for him. Anyone remember serving with him? We live here in Florence, Oregon.

Comments: Served aboard the U.S.S. Savage (DER-386) 1965 - 69, SM3. Loved the Navy & would have been forced to retire if I wasn't married at the time I got out.Great web page - will be telling my Association about it to see what we can do to preserve the memory of our beloved ship that some unsenistive Naval brass decided to use it for target practice. Lots of memories and friends were had

Comments: I put her out of commission. I sailed her from Vietnam to Subic Bay then on to Guam where she was sold to the the Indonesesion Navy. Lots of stories about that trip. My Askari Plaque still hangs in my den.

Comments: Tom I have a cruse book from the 66 to 68 pierod talking about recommision of the ship to some of the boats that we had in Viet Nam Also that A fram you see on th o1 level is the movie theater that we had in Nam up river we would show movies in there at night our soda machine was there and a pop corn Popper we set a booth up for the movies camers and had a little theather up there. Did you know that we had canavs awnings al the way around the ship with wooden pallet on the deck to keep you out of water when it rained and the ship was painted green. Brings back a lot of membors so good so not so good like tet 68. I worked in AC Flats and stood watch in acFlats Boiler room at one time was a boat en and GQ watch was after steering eating Ice CreamThanks David
